PAISES DE S.A.D.C.C.
This historical kanga comes from my fellow kanga enthusiast, Marisa. From Australia, she has been one of a few loyal followers of “Kabati La Kanga.” A few years back, we swapped kangas from Tanzania and South Africa and now I am lucky to have this beauty in my collection.
Made in India of pure cotton, this kanga is very light weight. Printed with a typical African dashiki design in the border, this kanga has no saying. The map is printed twice and highlights the countries of the SADCC or South African Development Coordination Conference, which was established in 1980 and replaced by the current SADC in 1992. So this kanga probably comes from around that time. It is printed in Portuguese, so likely for the Mozambican market.
