MIMI NI BAHARIA SITISHIKI NA MAWIMBE
This is a fantastic kanga from the 1990’s. It was made in India for the Tanzanian market and was purchased back in the day in Dar es Salaam by one of my friends. The kanga depicts the continent of Africa with the Uhuru Torch, a the national symbol of Tanzania representing freedom. In the corners those seem to be fan trees, but I am not sure – perhaps they are banana plants, which would make more sense since bananas are one of the staples in Tanzania.
The coastal scene also goes nicely with the saying at the bottom:
In the center of the kanga, it says: God Bless Africa
