NIENZI NIKUENZI YADUMU YETU MAPENZI
Here is another kanga nyepesi. “Nyepesi” means “light” in Swahili. Instead of cotton or a cotton blend, this kanga is made of some kind of synthetic material and feels lighter than the traditional cotton kangas. I have also heard this type of kanga being called, “laini” which means “smooth.” The label on the kanga reads Nida Nzito Khanga TZ, but the shop owner said that it came from India. This label does indeed seem different from other Nida labels, but I am not sure if this is because it is a different type of kanga or because it came from India or maybe it is even a counterfeit. Even though people call this kanga “light” it is actually warmer than a cotton kanga. This is why the label says nzito, which means “heavy.”
UPDATE AND MYSTERY SOLVED! This kanga is indeed made by Nida Textiles here in Tanzania. Please see the comment below from Amin Godil, who works at Nida.
This kanga was purchased in Tanga, Tanzania in April 2014
